Usage and dosing

Quinine belongs to the class of medications known as antimalarials. It is used along with one other medication (usually an antibiotic) to treat certain types of malaria.

This medication may be available under multiple brand names and/or in several different forms. Any specific brand name of this medication may not be available in all of the forms or approved for all of the conditions discussed here. As well, some forms of this medication may not be used for all of the conditions discussed here.

Dosing
200 mg
Each clear, hard-gelatin capsule, with "NOVO" and "200" printed in black, contains 200 mg of quinine sulfate. Nonmedicinal ingredients: acetic acid, colloidal silicon dioxide, gelatin, lactose, magnesium stearate, pregelatinized starch, sodium lauryl sulfate, and talc.

For the treatment of malaria, the average recommended daily adult dose of quinine is 600 mg by mouth, every 8 hours, for 3 to 7 days. Children’s doses are calculated according to body weight. Quinine should be taken after meals to reduce the possibility of an upset stomach.

Store this medication at room temperature, protect it from light and moisture, and keep it out of the reach of children.
